Bike parked in my neighborhood. Loved, evidently.
I got a little help this weekend installing the replacement part on my Bike Friday Tikit. I rode it to work today, and I must say the mechanic did a good job
One of these would be perfect for Myriam.
Yay! I’m finally organizing a “Ride your bike to work” event. The ride will go from Rennes to the Ker Lann Campus in Bruz at 8 in the morning on the 21st of september. It’s only about 10km and takes me 30 minutes. If I get more than 5 people to ride with me I’ll call it a success.
Today was the first time I took both my kids somewhere by bike. I took Rebecca and Martha in the trailer to drop them off at the nanny. I was worried for Martha, but they both seemed to enjoy the trip, especially Rebecca who was excited to go along with her little sister. I can’t wait to do it again!
The Oregon Manifest had a design contest for the best utility bike. And they just announced the winners. I certainly could have used one of these bikes for grocery shopping today. Touring panniers just don’t cut it. I was praying that the pack of milk didn’t break through the bungie cords on the way back. The winner in the picture above is Tony Pereira with his electric assist front loading bike.
The rest of the contest entrants weren’t too bad either. I kinda like the doggy side car “Donkelope” bike from this guy. I also have an appreciation for bikes that can portage kids as can be seen in the runner-up entry.
…at least you can trail the guy who tries to steal your bike.
So I went grocery shopping yesterday, but touring bags and bungie cords are not really convenient. I was worried the plastic wrap was going to give out and have milk jugs all over the pavement. Fitting things in the touring bags was a hassle too. I need to fit a big crate to the rack or get a bike that has one.
I’m not discouraged. I really think that for 90% of my transport needs I can do without a car. I already bike to work and lug the children to the nannies in a trailer. Going to Paris, I’ll take the train every time.
I’ll be posting images of utility bikes, because I think that’s what I’d like next.
