The Oregon Manifest had a design contest for the best utility bike. And they just announced the winners. I certainly could have used one of these bikes for grocery shopping today. Touring panniers just don’t cut it. I was praying that the pack of milk didn’t break through the bungie cords on the way back. The winner in the picture above is Tony Pereira with his electric assist front loading bike.
The rest of the contest entrants weren’t too bad either. I kinda like the doggy side car “Donkelope” bike from this guy. I also have an appreciation for bikes that can portage kids as can be seen in the runner-up entry.
There was an article today in Ouest-France about a guy who started a bike moving company. I’ve seen him around lugging the long trailer behind his bike, but haven’t been able to stop and talk to him. I’d say that the service could work in Rennes considering that there’s a lots of students who change their little studio apartments every year.
